Temporary Roles

Temporary Roles put a timer on a role: once it starts, Koya removes or gives back the role when the time is up. Useful for a trial role, a short mute role or an event pass.

Open it from the dashboard: Roles › Temporary Roles.

Create a temporary role

Click Create Temporary Role, then set:

Field	What it does
Role	The role to put on a timer
Mode	What happens when the time is up, see below
Duration	How long the timer runs, written like 30m, 12h, 1d or 1w
On Reassign	What happens if the role is given again while a timer is running

Mode

• Remove after duration: the timer starts when a member gets the role, and Koya removes it after the duration.
• Restore after duration: the timer starts when the role is taken from a member, and Koya gives it back after the duration.

If someone removes the role by hand before the end (or gives it back, in restore mode), the timer is cancelled.

On Reassign

Option	Effect on the running timer
Extend	Adds the duration to the existing timer
Reset	Cancels the timer and starts a new one
Ignore	Keeps the timer unchanged

Caution

Koya needs the Manage Roles permission, and its highest role must sit above every role it manages. The dashboard shows a warning when one of them is out of reach.
